Class Description:

In this creative dance class, dancers will explore movement, expression, body-mind connection while embodying foundations of dance like lines, levels, shapes, speed, rhythm, texture and more. Artists will be prompted with vivid imagery to ignite imagination and inspire improvised movement. Each class will build on sequential patterns, and will culminate with a group choreographed dance! The goals of this class are to develop functional coordination, SEL integration/expression, creative world building and compositional tools. Helen's pedagogy overlaps visual and performing arts, through dancing and drawing. Artists will develop their confidence for the stage and the page.

A bit about Helen:

Helen Wicks, a Cherry Valley alum, has taught dance at over 50 schools and studios around the Bay and was the Dance, Theater, and Arts specialist at The Nueva School for 10 years. In addition to being a leading innovator in dance education, she is a choreographer, aerialist, and multidisciplinary artist who has been commissioned by museums and theaters in SF and NYC. Her performance platform, Helen Wicks Works uses circus-informed dance, aerial, film, music, history, and technology to activate imaginations of multigenerational audiences. She holds a BA in Dance and Psychology from Bard College. Helen is also a certified Somatic Creative Arts Coach and works with individuals and groups of all ages.
